A Bittersweet Wedding Day

A Bittersweet Wedding Day

Two weeks ago, I photographed a lovely wedding — a last-minute booking, filling in for another photographer who couldn’t make it. I loved capturing Holly and Maceo’s day; it’s always an honor to document such joy and connection.

But this time, there was a deep melancholy behind the lens. The photographer I replaced, Adan, had been suddenly detained by ICE. He had flown to Florida, leaving behind his wife, family and friends. From all accounts, he’s a jolly nice fellow.

Adan is a gifted, kind, and talented photographer. PLEASE LIKE AND FOLLOW ADAN especially at this time. Eventually he will come home. Let him know he hasn’t been forgotton, and we are all praying for the best. You can find his work here:

It’s hard for me to keep my page and website “neutral.” Silence feels heavy when something like this happens. I don’t know where Adan is right now, but if you can, please visit his page, follow him, and leave a few kind words.

Please — don’t get political or angry in the comments. I imagine even Adan tries to stay neutral. Just be compassionate.

And while I don’t want to turn this into a rant, I will say this: ICE is cruel and broken. It destroys families, communities, and dreams. It should not exist.

Love and respect to all our Latin friends — in Mexico, Paraguay, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, and beyond. Our cities, especially Los Angeles, are richer, warmer, and more beautiful because of you.
