Chasing The Music with my Camera

Chasing the Music With My Camera

(QUICK disclaimer before I write a single word, as I don’t want anyone to think these are my pics, awesome though they are! But I do NOT plagiarize, just have massive respect for the artists shown and the photographers who took these images. Totally just pulled from Google. Feel free to let me know who shot what, thanks!)

As an English-born photographer and artist with over 25 years behind the lens. My work has always been about people, stories, and catching the spark that makes someone feel alive. Lately, I’ve felt a new pull: live music photography. I’m not giving up on headshots, events and weddings, as I’ve come to truly hone my skills and networks in this area. I guess I’m just feeling the “itch” for something different, challenging and something I personally love.

Why Concerts?

Nothing compares to the moment when the lights drop, the bass shakes your chest, and a thousand voices sing the same words. Music is messy, sweaty, emotional, loud—and it’s magic. I want to capture that. The tiny details: a drummer lost in rhythm, a fan with mascara-streaked cheeks, the split second when an artist closes their eyes and gives everything. I’m not a musician but I LIVE for music!

Why Now?

I’ve spent decades working as a photographer, but I’m starting fresh in this space. I want to grow, experiment with shooting in wild light, and capture the shows I love from the inside out. So here it is, I’m not an amateur by any means. But it’s time for me to expand before my noggin explodes! Let’s just say, its a passion and its “a calling”:

I’m offering FREE live music photography.

Not forever—but right now, while I build my live music portfolio, I want to support small (or big) bands and emerging artists who are making noise in the world. You get professional images to promote your music, and I get to document the energy, the passion, and the soul of live performance.

Who I’d Love to Work With

I dream about shooting the artists who’ve inspired me—Chapel Roan, Tegan and Sara, Brandi Carlile—powerhouses who turn concerts into communal love letters. But I’m just as excited to work with local bands, up-and-coming acts, or any artist who wants their energy documented in an honest, creative way.

My Promise

I bring more than gear—I bring 25+ years of experience, compassion, openness, and an artist’s eye. I’m gay, vegan, a little bohemian, and endlessly curious. When I photograph, I’m not just chasing an image—I’m chasing connection.

So if you’re an artist, a band, or someone making music that matters—I’d love to capture it for you. Let’s make memories together. For now, it’s free. For always, it’s art.

With love  (and earplugs in my bag),
Sarah Jane Hardt

*** NOTE The pictures shown are from different photographers, not me, sadly. But these are just some of my all time fav female artists (Blondie and Mazzy FOREVER! Gonna be an alt 90’s girl till I’m an ole lady!) ***
