Katie & Christopher — A Reception Rooted in Love, Community, and Conscious Celebration
Some events leave a mark—not just for their beauty or energy, but for the heart behind them. Katie and Christopher’s wedding reception was one of those rare occasions that reminded me exactly why I love what I do.
While I didn’t photograph their mountaintop ceremony (which, from every story I’ve heard, was breathtaking and deeply personal), I had the absolute honor of documenting their reception a few days later—and what a celebration it was.
Katie and Christopher are the kind of couple who live with intention. They’re passionate about fitness, about each other, and about the world around them. Their reception wasn’t just a party (though it was an incredibly fun and relaxed evening)—it was a gathering that celebrated love in all its forms, with depth, awareness, and purpose.
One of the most powerful moments came during their speeches. In a deeply moving pause in the evening, they spoke candidly about the world beyond their celebration. They touched on the injustices of ICE tearing families apart, the ongoing fight for Black lives, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, animal rights (a rare and powerful inclusion), and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Their words honored the friends and communities impacted by injustice and reminded everyone that love doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
It was one of the most heartfelt and human speeches I’ve ever witnessed. I’ve often wondered how empathetic people find a way to celebrate when so much suffering exists in the world. Katie and Christopher answered that question with grace and intention—by acknowledging it. They didn’t look away. Instead, they wove their joy with compassion, grounding their love in the context of the world around them. It left a lasting impression.
In another quiet but powerful gesture, they included a donation jar where guests could contribute to a fund that helps people repair broken taillights—a small, thoughtful act aimed at preventing unnecessary police stops and promoting safer communities. That simple act spoke volumes.
Dinner was vegan—another reflection of the thought and care they put into every aspect of the evening. Guests gathered, shared a meal, and danced the night away. The energy in the room was joyful, soulful, and filled to the brim with love.
This wasn’t just a reception. It was a reflection of two people who love fiercely, think deeply, and lead with compassion.
I’m so grateful I got to capture that energy. Katie and Christopher’s reception wasn’t just a celebration of their love—it was a celebration of community, action, and staying awake to the world around us. What a privilege to be part of it.
